Traditional Tibetan pure sheep wool, this carpet is made with an extraordinarily silky lustrous wool. It is probably handwoven using lambs wool, that’s how silky it is! This carpet is extremely rare and of the highest quality you can get for this kind of rug. Hand spun and hand knotted by a master weaver in the late 19th century, circa 1890-1910. Measures: 2’10” (W) x 5’7” (L).
The rug has some very unusual features in the design such as the spinning pinwheels and flowers and the fact that a floral rug is combined with two stylized cranes. The phoenix is one of the most powerful symbols of success and prosperity.
This antique Tibetan rug is in excellent condition for its age, which is approximately 90-100 years old, and it is very collectible. It was very well taken care of likely in an aristocratic home.
