A wonderful, unique, and very engaging original acrylic on canvas painting titled “Hunting Dreaming” by indigenous Australian Aboriginal artist Barbara Charles Napaltjarri (circa 1959 – ) (she was born on Napperby station in Central Australia away from a clinic or hospital where births would be normally recorded and since dates have little meaning to Aboriginal people the date was not recorded.) She resides and works in the Yuelamu region (Mt Allen).
Her paintings often depict hunting, dreaming, and indigenous desert animals – Snake, Witchetty Grub, and Perente Dreamings. (The Perente is a lizard that can grow to more than a meter and weigh up to 5 kilograms and lives solely in the desert living on other smaller lizards, sand frogs, and bugs).
This piece is from the famed Kelton Foundation Collection of important Australian Indigenous Works of Art.
Provenance:
1987; Papunya Tula Artists Pty. Ltd., Alice Springs, cat. No. BC87236A Avant Galleries, South Yarra, Victoria. Australian Consulate-General, L.A. 1996-99. Acquired from the above in 1991 Richard Kelton Collection, Santa Monica
A striking and original work. Would be a great addition to any Australian Aboriginal or tribal art/artefacts collection or an eye-catching stand-alone accent piece in about any setting. A true statement piece.
Dimensions: 30.5″ High, 39.25″ Wide, 1.25″ Deep.
