Antique Asian Bronze buddhist bell Tibetan Meditation Prayer Ghanta Bell.
Buddhist Tibetan Meditation Prayer Bell.
A Bronze ritual bell “DRILBU” in Tibetan or commonly known as “Ghanta”.
A Tibetan bronze ceremonial bell with a gilt vajra-shaped handle, finely cast with the image of a Bodhisattva’s head. The handle is surmounted by a four-pronged vajra finial. The bell’s dome is decorated with low-relief Sanskrit characters on lotus petals, and features a pattern of small vajras along the fluted edges. Inside the bell, where the clapper hangs, is an intricate lotus petal design with a signature. A band of vajras encircles the lip, while a row of tassels and lotus petals adorns the dome.
The “Drilbu” or the “Ghanta” in sanskrit, is a ritual handbell symbolic of wisdom.
Dorje is Tibetan for indestructible diamond scepter, and is symbolic of compassion.
The bell is held in the left hand and the scepter in the right as both hands gracefully move in prescribed gestures that serve as a commentary to the recitation.
Together, the Dorje and Drilbu symbolize the perfect union of wisdom and compassion necessary to achieve enlightenment.
Ritual Tibetan Bell (Ghanta) – The Bell is virtually synonymous with advanced Vajrayana tantric practice.
A Tibetan practitioner is rarely separated from this powerful meditation and ritual symbol.
It is the most widely recognized symbols used in Buddhism.
