This work, which required months to complete, features the central figure of Akshobhyavajra, a Tibetan Buddha. Liu Yi, a Beijing-based painter and practicing Buddhist, paints each of his contemporary mandalas as a meditation. With meticulous detail, he combines traditional Tibetan thangka icons with contemporary painting techniques and color. Liu Yi signed his name on the back, not the front, so as not to detract from the contemplation this work inspires.
