Contemporary African single mask created by the artist Bomber Bax.
The mask dates back to the early 1900s and was subsequently processed and painted in late 2022 by the artist.
The artist used special metallic paints to evoke a lunar effect and draw attention to a futuristic, Martian landscape. The mask features shapes typical of African tribes. Note the elongated shape with a corpuscle at the top of the head, probably a symbol of an important person in the tribe. The eyes are closed, typical of celebratory funerary masks. The mask was painted black, with the four decorative spikes (probably representing the celebrant’s gifts) decorated in red and green.
The mask is the perfect complement for eccentric living rooms where art and tribal-style décor take centre stage.
