These low grotto stools with shell seats were popular in the 19th century. This Griffon stool is a Hollywood Regency interpretation of one of those Venetian Grotto stools.

This stool is in good condition. The seat has been repaired and reinforced with dowels. The entire stool has been covered in silver with an under layer of bole allowing the silver to be burnished and given a distressed finish.
