Kathleen Murray (American, b. 1958) was born in Los Angeles, California. In the early 1970s, Murray spent three years in Europe studying art and languages at the American School in Switzerland (TASIS) and a year in Italy at St. Michael’s School outside Florence.

She resides in the Monterey Bay where she is well known for her deeply saturated and textured oil seascapes and landscapes of Carmel, Big Sur, and surrounding Coastal areas.

Colorful yet serene signed original oil painting on canvas by American artist Karen Reinhart (1938-2023). Karen was a beloved art teacher, and this was acquired from her Palm Beach Estate in 2024. The piece depicts great white egrets in a wetland with water, trees and grasses. It’s painted in bright shades of blue, coral and yellow, and is signed ‘Reinhart’ in the bottom right corner. It is presented in a simple maple wood frame. A pretty piece for a gallery wall.

Overall dimensions are 18″ wide x 22-1/4″ high x 1″ deep.
Artwork itself measures 16″ wide x 20″ high.

Gorgeous late 19th-century snowscape titled “After the Snow,” by artist Constantin Alexandrovitch Westchiloff (1877-1945) Signed on the bottom right corner and titled on edge (the color differences in the signature letters are original to the painting prior to cleaning, and have not been modified or augmented). Unframed. Image size: 14.25″H x 20.25″W

Westchiloff is an American-Russian artist. He was born in Russia in 1877, and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg; as an artist, he traveled extensively in Europe and in the USA. He finally settled in New England, where he died in 1945.

He is probably best-known for seascapes (particularly of the New England coastline) but was also well regarded for his landscapes, portraits and figures, and genre subjects.

His work, especially after his travels in Europe and then in America, is closest to Impressionist in style. His favored medium was oil, which was well suited to his confident and strong technique. This, in turn, imbued his paintings of the rugged landscapes and seascapes of New England with the drama typical of this area.

Bold and dynamic abstract composition titled “The Playful Journey” by Stephen Schulz (American, b. 1948). Schulz has used various types of acrylic paint, mixed with silicon to create a variety of textures. Signed and dated “Schulz 97” on verso, with an inscription that reads “For Leo and his Beautiful Family”. Wood support frame on verso.

Stephen Schulz (American, b. 1948) is an artist who has lived and worked in Fresno and Santa Cruz, California, and Cedar Grove, New Jersey. He has studied privately with Julie Connell, Jan Daniels, Michele Faia, Elle Fielder, Sal Pecoraro, Susan Stover, and Chris Volpe.

Artist’s Statement:
“My painting and artistic expression opens the doorway into an unconscious and creative world, where an uninhibited expression can take place, as one becomes immersed without the perception of time.

Painting and design started it. From the beginning the process of transforming materials into art has struck me as a magical alchemy and, over the years, that mysterious process has had its hold on me, leading me from hobby to art. The creative process fills me with a sense of wonder and has proven a most amenable vehicle for transforming inner vision to outer reality.

I paint from the inside out. Though I work quite deliberately, consciously employing both traditional and innovative techniques, my unconscious is the region of the most fertile of creative soil.

I love working with a full complement of colors but often find my design direction working within the narrow spectrum of black and white, shadow and light. Some of my early inspiration comes from the New York School and artists such as Franz Kline and Jackson Pollock. Their ideas and techniques have helped to free my mind to explore areas of the unconscious that aren’t restricted by the world of right and wrong, good and bad. The journey continues and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to explore this exquisite world of the creative process.”

Verbitski traveled the ruins of World War Two Russia creating haunting and lively Impressionist works.
