It features cross-style motifs composed of palmettes and leafy tendrils surrounded by a garland wreath of filigree scrollwork in an open abrashed ruby red field. It is framed with a simple leafy and eight-petaled floral border flanked with an inner guard band. Rendered in variegated shades of ruby red, crimson, dark brick red, taupe, brass, ecru, tan, dark gray, orange, rose, light yellow, and celadon with other accent colors. These rugs are also named Pirot or Sarkoy / Sharkoy Kilim. The production area is located at the route from central Europe to the Orient via Istanbul. Caravans traveling from both continents were passing through this area and carried Sharkoy Pirot Kilims to many destinations.
This rug is in good condition with typical wear and use of an old vintage rug.
