Huge unique table lamp made in the 1970s by Danish artist Birthe Troest at her own workshop in Nysted, Denmark. The vessel is beautifully sculpted in stoneware clay and is decorated in a playful manner with glazing in earth colors with dominant blue strokes. NOTICE: The lamp is sold without the shade, but let us know if you want us to supply one. The lamp was bought directly from the estate of the artist. Birte Troest (1943-2019) was a danish ceramic artist who mainly worked with larger objects, both jars, dishes and bowls and reliefs and sculptures in stoneware clay. She has also done murals. As decoration, she used colored clay in geometric or non-figurative patterns, which are usually partially glazed. The surfaces can thus alternately be glossy or matte in color or alternate between rough or smooth areas. Troest was educated at “Kunsthåndværksskolen” in the early 1960s and established her own workshop in Nysted in 1977.
