Hand carved reclining Lobi chair with geometric details, West Africa, circa 1940s-1950s. Made from a single block of Molave wood.
The Lobi people belong to an ethnic group that originated in what is today Ghana and now live across Burkina Faso, the Ivory Coast, and Ghana, three West African countries. This piece was acquired from a diplomat who was posted in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) in the 1970s.
