On offer is a rare large sized ‘Singe’ Monkey mask from the Bulu people of south central Cameroon. The Bulu are a sub-group of the Cameroon Fang, having originated from Gabon.
This is a typical boldly carved Bulu mask, very smooth and beautifully finished. Oval in shape, almost all in plain wood with circular holes for eyes. It has an oval mouth and an angular carved sharp nose. There is a russet colouring to the small comb above on the domed head and to the scarifications on the cheek.
It is a very expressively carved mask which is rarely seen in Europe today.
This is an impactful mask.
With its brutalist elegance and simplicity, it will complement most modern interiors.
It can be hung on the wall or displayed on a stand.
The condition is very good with a nice rich age patina.
