This feminine Kifwebe mask of the ‘Kikashi’ type features a prominent forehead and a subtly raised central crest leading down to the nose. Its round, high-relief mouth adds to its allure. Decorated with streaks of kaolin on the forehead and cheeks, it achieves a striking harmony of proportions, measuring 42x22x22 cm. Its graphic design seamlessly complements contemporary interior settings.
The Kifwebe masks were used in ceremonies of the Kifwebe secret societies where dances of the same name were performed, and the masks were then dressed with beards of long plant fibres attached to holes on the edges of the mask.
