A wonderful 6.7 lb gilt copper statue of the great teacher, Padmasambhava, also called Guru Rinpoche. He is considered the founder of Tibetan Buddhism’s oldest school. Seated on double lotus throne, he is wearing a peaked crown with upturned ear flaps, and a long robe with richly embroidered cloud pattern and Tibetan boots. In his right hand he holds a vajra to bring enlightenment, in the left a kalasa that contains elixir of wisdom. The face full and youthful, with furrowed, lifted brows and wide, almond-shaped eyes, the ears adorned with long foliate earrings. This charismatic work depicts the legend in action to subdue evil spirits and offer protection to his followers. This is a substantial statue showcasing the artist’s pure dedication and fine craftsmanship.
