A lovely Nepalese gilt bronze figure of Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, early to mid 20th century.
The Bodhisattva of Transcendent Wisdom sits upon a lotus pedestal, legs crossed in the full lotus position. The princely figure is dressed in a flowing dhoti covered in an elaborate foliate pattern, various jewels upon his naked torso, a billowing scarf around his shoulder, and a five pointed crown upon his head.
His attributes are prominently displayed. Manjushri holds the flaming sword of wisdom above his head with one hand, the Prajnaparamita Wisdom Sutra supported by a lotus blossom rising from his shoulder.
The base has been resealed with a later copper plate inscribed with a double vajra.
